Very Light Jets Are Taking Off

John Aebi-Magee
June 19, 2007

Manufacturers are already beginning deliveries worldwide of a new category of aircraft known as the Very Light Jet (VLJ) or Microjet. Over the next 10 years, these ultralight aircraft are going to change the way we travel.

Very Light JetMade possible by advances in aerospace engineering and especially in the use of extremely strong but very light carbon composites, these mini-jets will cut carbon emissions and costs for air travel.

Reporting advance sales of thousands of these new planes, manufacturers expect to deliver 15,000 Very Light Jet aircraft by 2015. Very Light Jet technology will create a revolution in the way we travel. Because they can operate from shorter runways than commercial airliners, Very Light Jets will utilize the 5000+ satellite airports around the US. The miserable and obsolete hub-and-spoke system may soon begin to give way to a more efficient local-based air travel system all because of Very Light Jets.

Because these aircraft will range in price from $1M to $3 million, they will be within reach of many businesses and individuals. Numerous private jet charters will soon be available from the tiny airports that are scattered throughout the country.

For more information, check out Very Light Jet Magazine, the online industry journal.

NOT UltraLight Aircraft

UltraLight Living does not support or promote the use of ultralight aircraft such as the homemade airplane kits that kill about one person every day (John Denver was one such casualty). Just try this google news search for ultralight aircraft and you will see what I mean.

Very Light Jets are expected to be very safe and are not at all related to ultralight aircraft.
