Take Back Your Time is a US/Canadian initiative to challenge the epidemic of overwork, over-scheduling and time famine that now threatens our health, families, relationships, communities and even the environment.
The event is sponsored by the Simplicity Forum, a think tank of academics, authors, activists, educators and entrepreneurs who seek to promote simplicity in our work and in our lives. The Simplicity Forum seeks to honor and organize people who actively work towards changing both the culture and the policies that drive over-work and over-consumption society values.
There are many ways to celebrate Take Back Your Time Day -- from organizing an event on your campus, library, or community group, to hosting a brown bag lunch at work, simply taking a long lunch, or gathering for an evening meal with family or friends. The hope is that more people will become aware that simplicity is vital to personal, social and global well-being.
Simplicity is a growing trend in the United States and other industrial countries. Millions of people (by some estimates over 50 million) are trying to slow down, work meaningfully, engage in relationships, build community, get out of debt and reduce wasteful consumption.
To learn more, visit the Simplicity Forum web site or read their recommended book "A Garden of Simplicity" by Duane Elgin, author of the classic book Voluntary Simplicity.
